On June 14, 2007, the faculty and staff of the Samford University Library announced the establishment of the Jean Thomason Scholarship for IGHR.
The scholarship is named for and in honor of Jean Thomason, who directed the Institute from 1997-2007. The scholarship, which covers the cost of tuition,
will be awarded annually and is open to anyone currently employed at a library.
The Jean Thomason Scholarship Committee is pleased to announce the recipient of the 2014 scholarship is Annie V. Nelson. Annie is a reference librarian and archivist at the Blair-Caldwell African American Research Library, a branch of the Denver Public Library in Colorado. In this position, Annie maintains archival collections and assists researchers in all kinds of work, including genealogical research into African Americans journey into the American West. Annie has also taught beginners workshops in genealogy for the library and is excited to take Researching African American Genealogy: 20th Century Research to further hone her skills. Annie hopes to use the information she learns in Course 7 to assist her patrons with their "ardent desire to research and learn their family history."
