Master of Philosophy - Public Health University of Ghana
Master of Public Health - University of Ghana
Master of Veterinary Science - Kishiniev Agricultural Institute
Lecturer: Course 8
Dr. Osei Bonsu, as a student in Russia, traveled extensively in the eastern European countries before his veterinary
course completion in 1988. Returning to Africa he started his career as a Veterinary Surgeon and later, specializing
in public health, became an employee of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture of Ghana, Africa. He has over twenty
years experience working as a Civil Servant.
Dr. Bonsu, with a strong belief in genealogy and family relations, joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day
Saints and was inspired to make a career change. He resigned from the Ministry of Health and accepted the position
in the Church as the African Representative of what was then the Genealogical Society of Utah (GSU), which changed
to FamilySearch International in 2004. His initial duty was acquiring public records in over ten African countries
and overseeing the digitalization of them, several of which are in publication.
His most recent and rewarding accomplishment is the extensive collection of oral genealogical data, gathered from
interviews with local African family historians in their native villages, which he has been conducting since 2004.
This collection will be available to the public on Community Trees at the FamilySearch.org website when completed.
Dr. Bonsu has completed several genealogy courses and presented papers at several conferences. He has also
published articles on tuberculosis. He is the Board Chairman of the Board Abattoir Company Ltd., Accra, Africa,
where he has been a member for several years, and the President of Ghana Veterinary Medical Association.
