Computer Science Research at SamfordFaculty Research Faculty research interests include simulation of cognitive behaviors via various techniques with particular emphasisi on artificial neural networks, robotics applications, use of alternative computing paradigms as problem solving techniques, new ways to engineer the web, design and development of web applications and new frameworks to run those applications, security, information management, and usability. Check the personal web pages of Computer Science faculty members for details. Student ResearchStudent research is the natural progression from a viable faculty research agenda. Not only does it provide valuable support for faculty research efforts, but it presents the challenges of the discipline in a unique way and offers a powerful opportunity for hands-on learning. All Computer Science students are encouraged to engage in research related activities during their time at Samford. The department offers students a variety of research opportunities, typically in support of a faculty member's research agenda. One of the most exciting options is for summer research with a faculty mentor. Financial assistance for such work may be available from sources such as the Samford Undergraduate Research Program (SURP) and the National Science Foundation (NSF). Opportunities exist for students with innovative research projects to present their work at venues both on and off campus. Some examples of student research at Samford include:
Students can obtain credit toward their major or minor by taking the established research course (COSC 410) for 1-4 hours of credit per semester. In addition, the Current Topics (COSC 460), Artificial Intelligence (COSC 470), and Senior Project (COSC 495) courses provide the chance for student project oriented research. | ||||||
