State and Local Government  MWF 9:15-10:20  pols312
The instructions are taken from the Samford List Server page, written by Alan Hargrave. Visit this page for more detailed explanation of list capabilities.

In all of the examples below, the name of the list is HIST101, the name of the list user is Jane L. Doe and her e-mail address is jldoe@samford.edu.

Subscribing to a List

To begin participating in a mailing list, one simply subscribes to the list. This is done by sending a subscription request to the list server (listproc@samford.edu):

subscribe list-name your-name

This command (as are all list server commands) is sent to listproc@samford.edu as the text of an e-mail message. In other words, use your e-mail program (most likely Simeon if you are using the Samford e-mail system) to send a message to listproc@samford.edu. The subject line can be left blank. The body of the message should contain only the subscribe command above. Replace "list-name" with the name of the list to which you wish to subscribe. Replace "your-name" with your real name (not your e-mail address). For example, if Jane L. Doe wanted to be added to the HIST101 mailing list, the command would look like:

subscribe HIST101 Jane L. Doe

When the list server receives this e-mail message, it will add Jane (actually her e-mail address) to the HIST101 mailing list. IMPORTANT: When subscribing to a list, you must send the subscribe command from the e-mail address that you wish to be added to the list. The list server automatically adds you to the list based on the address from which you send the subscription request.
