art gallery - 2007-2008 schedule

August 20-Sept 27 CELEBRATION OF LATIN AMERICAN ART In conjunction with the Samford World Languages Department, Bare Hands Gallery, Sojourn Gallery, and the Samford community this exhibition of art, photographs, clothing, jewelry, and other artifacts from Latin American cultures will be an educational experience as well as a visual feast.

October 3-31 METAPHOR BOXES AND DRAWINGS by BEVERLY B. ERDREICH These provocative mixed media artworks deal with the artist’s commentary on love, death, violence, memory, and religion. These boxes and their accompanying drawings are artistically sophisticated and visually depict political, sociological and emotionally charged concepts. Beverly Erdreich is a highly respected Birmingham artist who has exhibited extensively throughout the region. October 17, 6:00PM reception and artist talk.

November 5-30 SAMFORD ART STUDENT ANNUAL SHOW

November 5 Opening Recption and Announcement of Awards 4-6PM

This year’s judge, Anne Arrasmith, co-founder of Space One Eleven will choose the works accepted for hanging and will also pick the winners from those selected.

December 7-15 GRADUATING SENIOR ART EXHIBITION

Graduating seniors in fine art, graphic design, and interior design will display their senior projects for professor and professional review and for the community to view. Reception after commencement December 15.

February 1-28 ONE MAN SHOW BY DEPARTMENT CHAIR LARRY THOMPSON

Selected artworks in drawing, painting and photography by the new art department chairman will be on display and for sale. One of Larry’s most recent exhibitions was in Bejing, China. He comes to Samford from OBU in Arkansas.

March 3-31 SAMFORD SELECTS: ARTIST SHOWCASE

Artists from the SAMFORD VISITING VISUAL ARTIST SERIES will exhibit artwork

in the Samford Art Gallery for the month of March. Mixed media, painting, drawing and other art media will be exhibited by artists Doug Balous, Annie Krammerer Butrus, Catherine Cabaniss, Beverly Erdreich, and Amy Pleasant.

April 7-30 ANNUAL ART FACULTY SHOW

Art faculty members Mary Ann Culotta, Richard Dendy, Scott Fisk, Shannon Flynt, Susan Perry, Don Rankin, Robin Snyder, Larry Thompson, Jane Timberlake-Cooper, Lowell Vann, and Mary White will have an exhibition of their most recent work. Works by these artists will be in all media including painting, drawing, photography, sculpture, pottery, mixed media, and graphic design. Closing reception and presentation of art student academic awards April 30th 4-6PM.

May 9-23 GRADUATING SENIOR ART SHOW
