Halbrooks Inaugurated as
President of Colgate Rochester Crozer
Dr.
G. Thomas Halbrooks '60 was inaugurated April 26 as the 10th president
of Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School in Rochester, N.Y. Halbrooks
joined the Rochester institution after nine years as dean of the
faculty and professor of church history at Baptist Theological Seminary
in Richmond, Virginia-an institution he helped establish in 1991.
The Birmingham native served previously as professor of church history
at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary from 1978 until 1991.
He holds an M.Div. degree from Southern Baptist
Theological
Seminary and a Ph.D. from Emory University.
Colgate Rochester
Crozer Divinity School is the result of the 1928 merger of two American
Baptist seminaries: Colgate Theological Seminary of Hamilton, N.Y.,
and Rochester Theological Seminary. Crozer Theological Seminary
began in 1867 in Chester, Pa., with financial support from Baptist
industrialist John P. Crozer, and merged with Colgate Rochester
in 1970.
Civil rights
leader Martin Luther King, Jr., was a 1951 graduate of Crozer.
