Dr. Ruth
C. Ash
(dean, Orlean Bullard Beeson School of Education and Professional
Studies) was named to the nine-member Judges Panel for the Malcolm
Baldrige National Quality Award. She began her three-year term March
1.
Congress established
the Baldrige Award in 1987 to recognize U.S. organizations for their
achievements in quality and business performance. Judges are appointed
by the Secretary of Commerce from among the 350 members of the National
Institute of Standards and Technology Board of Examiners, comprised
of leading U.S. business, health-care and educational experts.
Dr. Rod
Davis (dean, Howard College of Arts and Sciences) was recognized
as the Outstanding Administrator of the Year for 2001 by the Alabama
Association of Foreign Language Teachers.
Chris Gillespie
(Exercise Science and Sports Medicine) was elected president of
the Alabama Athletic Trainers' Association. As president, he also
serves on the executive committee of the Southeast Athletic Trainers'
Association.
Paul Kuruk
(Cumberland School of law) co-authored legislation filed in
March in the Alabama House of Representatives to make changes in
the state's notary public system to facilitate its use in international
transactions. If adopted, the legislation will be the first of its
kind in the U.S.
Dr. Janice
Lasseter (English) contributed an in-depth biography on writer
Rebecca Harding Davis to the recently published Dictionary of Literary
Biography: American Prose Writers, 1820-1870.
Dr. Mary
Monk-Tutor (McWhorter School of Pharmacy) was approved as a
Fellow of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists.
