Cochran
and Moore Write the Samford Record Book

didn't rewrite the record book for Samford women's basketball. The
constantly-in-motion senior guard penned a first edition.
Until Cochran
and her seven senior teammates arrived four years ago, Samford women's
basketball didn't exist. During the intervening four seasons, these
eight worked hard to build the foundation for a solid program.
"I am
very proud of our seniors, and they should be proud of what they
have started," said Coach Janet Cone after the season. She
spoke of Cochran, Cortney Moore, Wendi Wilcox, Jennifer Luttrell,
Kelli Moore, Danielle Pinkston, Deon Cooper and Clarissa Clark,
who suffered a season-ending injury in November.
Looking at
what it took to get the program started, Cochran's contributions
stand out. The 5-6 native of Starkville, Miss., played more minutes
in more games and scored more points than anyone else associated
with Samford women's basketball.
Cochran leaves
with 1,247 points in 110 games, an average of 11.3 a game. She played
3,785 minutes, an average of more than 34 a game. And she holds
career records for field goals (460), three-point goals (112), free
throws (215), assists (463) and steals (289).
If they kept
numbers on diving for loose basketballs, Cochran probably would
hold that one, too.
Cortney Moore,
another four-year starter, leaves with her name atop two significant
career categories. The 6-3 center from Roswell, Ga., grabbed more
rebounds (725) and blocked more shots (196) than any other Bulldog.
Cone's team
peaked last year with a 19-10 record. This year, it struggled with
offensive inconsistencies, lost some close games and finished 8-21.
Clark's injury after five games was one of the factors that hurt
the team offensively.
