Samford Ranked Fifth in
South by
U.S. News & World Report
Samford University climbed a notch to fifth in the South among
regional universities in U.S. News & World Report's 2001
edition of "America's Best Colleges." The No. 5 ranking
is Samford's highest in the 11 years it has been ranked by U.S.
News. It has been sixth for the past two years.
U.S. News selects the top regional universities in four geographic
areas-a total of 505 schools-that provide "a full range
of undergraduate programs and graduate education at the master's
level." Samford offers 24 degree programs, including 16
at the master's level and above.
Samford also ranks seventh in the magazine's Best Value category
of the 130 regional universities in the South.
Rankings are based on a school's academic reputation, freshman
retention rates, faculty resources, student selectivity, financial
resources, graduation rate and alumni giving rate. n
