ODK Seeking 50 Exemplary
Alumni To Mark Society's Anniversary
The Samford Chapter of Omicron Delta Kappa will celebrate its
50th anniversary during 2001 by recognizing 50 Samford alumni
who exemplify the leadership and service values espoused by the
organization, according to Brad Wood, president of the student
chapter.
Founded in 1914, ODK was the first college honor society on a
national scale to give recognition and honor for meritorious
leadership and service in extracurricular activities, and the
development of general campus citizenship.
Leadership and achievement in five categories are recognized:
(1) scholarship, (2) athletics, (3) campus or community service,
(4) journalism, speech and mass media, and (5) creative and performing
arts.
The Samford chapter was chartered April 6, 1951. During the past
50 years, it has tapped approximately 1,000 students into membership.
One of its alumni, Eldridge W. Roark, Jr., '55, served as national
ODK president from 199094.
Nominations must include name, address, telephone number and
