Task Forces Consider Samford Mission/Culture

Three task forces comprised of students, faculty and staff worked throughout the spring to provide insight into Samford’s unique mission and culture. In May the groups reported to President Corts their findings in the areas of Academic Vigor, Christian Impact and Community. Corts said he commissioned the Task Forces to complement the many community surveys, external reviews and internal committee work commissioned in recent years.

The Task Forces were not expected to collect new survey data or coldly analyze the community but rather to assemble anecdotal evidence and add their members’ personal experiences of Samford’s community. “We want to seek out that kind of counsel and advice that might not ordinarily come to us in a more formal or scientific way,” Corts said.

As a result of the Task Force work and other ongoing projects, Corts said, “we hope to gain insight into how Samford can do better what is most important; we hope to turn up some new ideas; we hope to benefit from a clearer statement of what matters most to those who are closest to our everyday efforts.”
