Tickets are on sale for the inaugural season of Samford University School of the Arts' Davis Architects Guest Artist Series. The 2008-09 line-up features a variety of nationally known musicians.
Performers and dates are:
All performances will be at 7:30 p.m. in Samford's Brock Recital Hall.
Samford School of the Arts dean Joseph Hopkins notes that the season offers some of America's best solo and chamber music talents.
"The artists were selected not only for their ability to delight audiences with stunning performance, but also for their ability to contribute to our academic community," said Dr. Hopkins.
"The Davis Architects Guest Artists will present master classes, offer one-on-one private lessons, instruct in classes, work with our ensembles, and spend time in informal discussions about making a career in music," he said.
The series is made possible in part through the generosity of the firm that has designed most of Samford's Georgian-Colonial buildings, including the series' performance venue, Jane Hollock Brock Hall, which opened in 2006.
Season tickets are $75 adult, $60 senior adult (55 and older), and $40 student/child. Individual concert tickets are $20 adult, $15 senior adult and $10 student/child.

A cast of current and former Samford University theatre students will present John Osborne's Look Back in Anger Aug. 7-10 in the school's Bolding Studio. Performances will be at 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 7-9 and at 2:30 p.m. on Aug. 10.
The production is the first offering of a new Samford project known as Praxis. According to assistant professor of theatre Mark Castle, the new non-profit theatre company is designed to enable Samford faculty, alumni and students to present shows apart from the regular Samford Theatre season.
Praxis, said Castle, means the process of putting theoretical knowledge into practice. "That is what we mean to do with the company for our student actors and alumni," said Castle, who sees it as a possible stepping stone to professional work around the country for the thespians.
The cast of Look Back in Anger includes recent Samford theatre alumni John Cooley and Rush Brunson, and current students Kelli Winn and Sevy Foster. Castle directs the play.
The drama about disillusionment and discontent in post-World War II Britain, first performed at London's Royal Court Theatre in 1956, is often cited as having introduced a postwar school of British playwrights known as "the angry young men."
Look Back in Anger tickets are $10 adults, $8 senior adults and $5 students/children. For reservations, call (205) 588-5664.
