Greek Life Honored For Adopt-A-School Work

Tutoring at McElwain Elementary SchoolSamford's Interfraternity and Panhellenic councils received Partner of the Year honors at the Birmingham City Schools Partner in Education awards banquet in May.

Members of Samford sororities and fraternities were cited for their extensive work with the Adopt-A-School program at Birmingham's McElwain Elementary School. Through the program, hundreds of Samford students have provided weekly one-on-one tutoring and mentoring, worked to maintain and beautify school grounds and helped the McElwain PTA in fundraising projects.

2007 marks the third year of Samford's participation in the Partner In Education program. In 2006 Samford Greek Life presented to the McElwain Elementary School PTA a check in the amount of $10,000 to support a $40,000 playground reconstruction.
