The extended Samford family has a new way to stay connected to the university. The Samford Crimson student newspaper, founded in 1915, has joined the "new media," publishing online for the first time on February 7.
The student-produced site includes Samford news, opinions, sports and culture articles s as well as interactive features, links of interest and an archive of back issues.
The Crimson site is hosted by College Publisher, an online content management site designed specifically to help college newspapers move into the world of digital media.
Crimson advisor Andy Parrish said the most important reason for the Crimson's digital expansion is to help Samford's student journalists develop the skills demanded by modern professional journalism. The internet, he said, "is where everything is headed." "In fact, most of it is already there," he added. "We need to catch up with that".
Now the rest of the world can catch up with Samford at www.samfordcrimson.com.
