Sigma Theta Tau | Samford University Association of Nursing Students (SUANS) | Nurses' Christian Fellowship (NCF)

Sigma Theta Tau, International, Gamma Eta Chapter.

Students may be invited to join this international honorary organization for nurses. The purposes of this society shall be to:
  • recognize superior achievement
  • recognize the development of leadership qualities
  • foster high professional standards
  • encourage creative work
  • strengthen commitment to the ideals and purposes of the profession

Nurses' Christian Fellowship (NCF)

is an organization of Christian nursing students and practicing registered nurses. The purpose of NCF is to better prepare nurses to assist people spiritually, psychosocially, and physically as they face crisis. The concern of NCF is for quality nursing care which includes the spiritual dimension regardless of religious affiliation. mason.gmu.edu

Samford University Association of Nursing Students (SUANS)

is a constituent of the Alabama Association of Nursing Students (AANS) and the National Student Nurses Association (NSNA). The purpose of SUANS is to aid in the development of personal and professional growth by providing programs which are timely. By becoming more involved in the profession and sharing experiences with others, the student is able to broaden his/her outlook.

SUANS certificates for portfolios will be given out to all who attend meetings. You must be present to receive a certificate of involvement!

SUANS Officer Job Descriptions (All officers must be dues-paying members of NSNA, and SUANS/NCF meetings should be held at least twice a semester.)

President:

  • Oversee and lead all meetings
  • Set agenda for every meeting
  • Oversee other positions
  • Represent SUANS/NCF at Samford University Functions
  • Type end of semester report
  • Fill position for at least one year

Vice President:

  • Coordinate speakers for SUANS meetings
  • Assume president's duties when he/she is absent
  • Oversee Secretary and Treasurer positions
  • Fill position for at least one year

Secretary/Treasurer:

  • Have financial report available for every meeting
  • Distribute NSNA membership forms
  • Keep up with any money raised-dues and fundraising
  • Have financial report approved by designated faculty advisor
  • Type minutes for every meeting and keep in binder
  • Update membership list periodically
  • Develop fundraising programs

Chaplin/NCF Representative:

  • Prayer at every meeting
  • Coordinate speakers/devotionals for meeting
  • Report SUANS officers about any NCF activity
  • Periodically sent encouraging emails to SUANS members

Public Relations/Community Service:

  • Coordinate community service projects- at least one service project per semester
  • Notify students/faculty of time, date, place of meetings
  • Coordinate PR with Mrs. Medbery through use of SON web page
  • Work with VP to coordinate the Christmas party and Mental Health Association Project
