Application Instructions for the Chiropractor/BSN-MSN Family Nurse Practitioner Program:
Deadlines:
- July 1st: Complete Application Packet Due.
- November 1st: Complete Application Packet Due.
- Classes begin in January.
Applicants for the MSN degree program will hold a bachelor of science in nursing degree or a bachelor of science degree with a major in nursing from an NLNAC or CCNE accredited program, and a Doctor of Chiropractic degree. Applicants are considered on a competitive basis by the School of Nursing; thus, applicants’ admission profiles are evaluated according to stated admission criteria.
The application packet (not in a binder) must include the following items and be mailed to:

- School of Nursing graduate program application and $35 application fee. The fee is waived for Samford graduates and previous applicants. Make checks payable to Samford University.
- Signed copy of Performance Standards
- Current Photo
- Two official transcripts of all colleges and universities previously attended. You must request that these transcripts be mailed directly to you. If you have not completed your BSN program you will need to send a current unofficial transcript, and then the office transcript once the program is completed and the degree has been awarded.
- Three completed recommendation forms. The forms must be submitted in sealed envelopes signed across the seal by the recommender. The three recommendations required are: one academic, one supervisor, and one medical professional colleague. If unable to obtain an academic or supervisor recommendation, you may substitute these with another medical professional colleague recommendation. References should attest to the applicant’s academic ability and potential. Please do not submit recommendations from family members or other applicants.
- Evidence of current unencumbered license as a registered nurse. This may be waived until enrollment in first clinical course, with approval from Dr. Poole.
- Undergraduate cumulative grade point average of at least 3.00 on a 4.00 scale.
The following criteria are also necessary for admission consideration:
- International applicants or American citizens who learned English as a second language must score at least 550 (paper), 213 (computer) or 80 (internet) on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL).
- One undergraduate course in nursing research with a grade of C (2.00) or better. (except for RN to MSN).
- One undergraduate health assessment course with a grade of B (3.00) or better (for FNP students only).
Conditional Admission Should any of the above conditions not be met, the applicant may be considered on an individual basis for conditional admission. In the event of conditional admission, the applicant must complete the first eight credits of the required graduate nursing curriculum at Samford University with a B or better in each course attempted. Failure to meet the requirement as stated will prevent progression in the School of Nursing graduate program.
