When I decided I wanted to major in music education, I really had no idea of all the intricacies that would be involved. I really have to commend Dr. Nordlund for all her efforts and the way she works with the school of education to try to see that we get what we need on both the musical and educational sides. It's a unique major because those two very diverse aspects must be balanced. It can be a very tough major because it requires so much time and so many classes, but to me, it has been completely worth it. Though I've gotten the most out of the music courses, the education courses also bring some interesting perspectives to the table. I had decided when I came to Samford that I wanted to be a music education major and two years later I'm still happy in it, so somebody is doing something right.

My experience at Samford has been wonderful.  I have learned so many things about music as a whole and have been expanded as a musician.  I decided to become a music education major because I want to be able to give high school kids the same wonderful band experience that I was fortunate to have.  I feel that Samford is a place that will help me to nurture success, and will push me to be the best that I can be.  All of my professors here have been wonderful and helpful.  They all truly care about the students and their success.  I know that I have great things ahead of me that Samford is going to help me achieve.

I believe Music Education is both a calling and a ministry.  It's definitely demanding, but for those who truly love it, nothing could be more rewarding.  The closer I get to obtaining my degree, the more assured of this I become.  Classes such as Materials and Methods, Child Development, and Clinical Experiences make the curriculum exciting, challenging, and real.   While choral music is my passion, I also love performing.  Thanks to the "Honors in Performance" program, I don't have to sacrifice either.  Most of all, I am grateful for the wonderful people who surround and support me at Samford -- both faculty and friends.  Because of them, I am positive that I am receiving the best possible educational experience.
