The Interfraternity Council (IFC) of Samford University

We, the Samford University Interfraternity Council, acting as representatives of member fraternities, establish this body to promote effective leadership within the fraternity system; to promote philanthropic endeavors; to encourage strong brotherhood within the member chapters; and to build cooperative interaction among individual chapters. The Council acts to govern the actions of member fraternities for the betterment of the Greek system and submits its purpose to the contribution of furthering Samford University's stated mission.

 

2009 IFC Pre-Recruitment Rules

The following rules were established to protect the integrity of the Recruitment process and the rights of potential members to make personal decisions about involvement in fraternity life without undue pressure.  In addition, the Samford University Code of Values is to be respected by fraternity members and potential members.

1.      All Samford students, including fraternity members and potential new members, are prohibited from drinking alcohol. Violation results in the fraternity responsible for the event being fined, at a minimum. Individuals will also be subject to University consequences/violations.

2.      Women may not participate in Prerecruitment by attending fraternity events or by actively recruiting, with the exception of each fraternity's individual night of Fraternity Week.

3.      Bids or verbal commitments are strictly prohibited before Bid Day.

4.      Neither fraternity money nor fraternity members', active or inactive, may be spent on potential new members.

5.      Fraternity members are strictly prohibited from mentioning any fraternity's name besides their own to prospective members.

6.      Fraternity members may communicate with potential new members by phone or electronic communication media.  (Electronic invitations must reflect the approved PR wording/graphics)

7.      Fraternity members may distribute to potential new members fraternity publicity in the form of pamphlets, cards, and fliers, and electronic invitations.

8.      Potential new members are allowed to attend fraternity events on campus and in non-residential areas off campus.

9.      Potential new members are allowed to ride with fraternity members off campus as long as the destination is a nonresidential area.

10.  Fraternity members may visit potential new members in their residence halls, but the fraternity members must leave per request of a potential new member or staff member.

11.  Potential new members are not allowed in fraternity houses after Tuesday, September 8 (Sept. 9 Formal Recruitment Rules are in effect) outside of the official hours of formal Recruitment.

12.  Weekend trips and/or overnight trips with potential new members are prohibited.
