- Vacation days for full time faculty on nine-month agreements are those dates when classes are not in session and no official duties are planned according to the approved academic calendar of the University.
- Vacation days for full time faculty on twelve month agreements and Administrative-Faculty are 24 working days in each fiscal year normally taken when classes are not in session and no official duties are planned according to the approved academic calendar of the University.
- Vacation days do not accumulate to future agreement years.
- Vacation leave should be recorded on your monthly attendance reports.
- Vacation balances will be printed at the bottom of your pay advices and will be updated each pay period and maintained by the Payroll Office.
VACATION - STAFF
Policy for calendar year 2009:
- Vacation begins to accrue with the first pay period following your full time service date.
- Vacation may be taken after the completion of three months of continuous full time employment.
- Vacation leave with pay may be taken up to the amount accrued.
- Vacation leave with pay will not be advanced.
- Vacation leave balances will be printed at the bottom of your pay advices once you are eligible to begin using vacation time.
- Vacation leave balances will be updated each pay period and maintained by the Payroll Office.
- Vacation leave taken should be recorded on your bi-weekly or monthly attendance reports.
- If you leave Samford after completing three months of employment, you will be paid your accrued vacation leave balance.
- Vacation benefits for regular full time staff accrue as follows:
- Through the 1st year of continuous employment = 12 days
- Beginning with the 2nd year of continuous employment= 14 days
- Beginning with the 4th year of continuous employment = 16 days
- Beginning with the 6th year of continuous employment = 18 days
- Beginning with the 11th year of continuous employment = 20 days
- Beginning with the 16th year of continuous employment= 24 days
- The maximum vacation leave that may be accumulated is 10 days greater than the vacation earned per year.
Policy for calendar year 2010:
- Effective January 1, 2010: Vacation will be granted in a lump sum basis at the beginning of each calendar year based on current accrual rates.
- Any unused vacation will not carry-over from year to year.
- Vacation benefits for regular full time staff accrue as follows:
Through the 1st year of continuous employment = 12 days
Beginning with the 2nd year of continuous employment= 14 days
Beginning with the 4th year of continuous employment = 16 days
Beginning with the 6th year of continuous employment = 18 days
Beginning with the 11th year of continuous employment = 20 days
Beginning with the 16th year of continuous employment= 24 days - Effective January 1, 2010, vacation pay may not be used during the two week notice period required when an employee resigns. It is important that the resigning incumbent be available during the notice period to assist in the transition.
- Unused vacation will not be paid out to terminating staff.

- When can I take my vacation?
Staff: You may take your accrued vacation after three months of continuous full-time service.
