Summary of the Advancement Officer's position for the Ida V. Moffett School of Nursing is to seek annual and major financial gifts through relationship-based fund raising efforts. Under direction, the Advancement Officer will identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward major gift donors, develop fundraising strategies; serve as development liaison; support budgets, projects, goals and strategies.
Duties as a key component of the school's support staff infrastructure, the Advancement Officer will be responsible for the following duties:
- Work with administrators in developing goals, an annual plan and strategies for identifying, contacting, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding major gift prospects for the IVMSON.
- Assist in the development of fundraising priorities and appropriate communications plan for those priorities.
- Articulate the fundraising priorities for the department in context of the entire university and be well-versed in the programs and facts related to IVMSON.
- Use the Alumni database and other sources to initiate prospect research files to identify prospects with capacity and inclination to support the programs of IVMSON.
- Identify, cultivate, and solicit philanthropic support by developing and maintaining relations with corporations, foundations, and individuals, including alumni, faculty, staff, and other key personnel; foster positive and enduring relationship that produce reciprocal benefits.
- Keep prospect information and activity current using the Prospect Management capability of the Banner product.
- Identify and develop background profiles on key major gift prospects.
- Conduct, cultivation, solicit and maintain records of all research activities and visits to selected major gifts prospects.
- Develop fundraising strategies and methods or activities to ensure proper acknowledgement, recognition, and stewardship of donors; participate in developing campaign materials, case statements, and brochures; evaluate effectiveness of development programs and securing gifts at various levels; generate reports.
- Meet with administrators on regularly to discuss opportunities for the major gifts prospects.
- Attend Advisory Board and alumni functions as appropriate to network with alumni major gift prospects.
- Participate in professional development organizations, committees, boards, and meetings; travels locally, and out-of-town as necessary; prepares call reports in a timely manner.
- Serve as the representative between IVMSON and the Advancement Management Team communicating priorities and programs.
- Perform such other duties as may be assigned by the Dean.
- Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree and a minimum of five years experience in, preferably higher education, fund-raising work with demonstrated ability to identify, cultivate and solicit significant contacts for financial support from alumni, parents, friends, corporations, and foundations.
- Sound interpersonal, communication and human relations skills.
- Proficient verbal and professional written communication skills.
- Strong marketing and presentation skills.
- Ability to maintain relationships with significant and influential individuals.
- Ability to solicit gifts.
- Demonstrable leadership and ability to manage competing priorities effectively.
- Ideal candidate is a creative, organized, deadline-oriented team player.
- Ability to travel and perform occasional weekend and evening work.
- Fulfill other duties as assigned by the dean and IVMSON administrative team.
