- Duties:
The Assistant serves Special Collection patrons and assists in the processing and maintenance of the Collection.
This is a part-time position (10 hours per week) as of 1 July 2009 but will be restored to fulltime when budget allows.
Specific duties are:
- Responds to patron's research needs (internal and external to the University) providing information and research assistance, whether through personal interaction or telephone, written or email queries.
- Communicates effectively (orally and written) when interacting with the entire University and constituencies of the University.
- Processes Special Collection material using archival procedures.
- Prepares finding aids for the Collection for better access.
- Maintains the Collection through shelving and care of materials.
- Required Qualifications:
- A high school diploma.
- Archival experience with organizational and supervisory duties in an institution with manuscript and other special collections.
- Demonstrated ability to use web-based and other technologies in library and collections development and delivery.
- Ability to perform physical activities association with archival environments.
- Knowledge of historical and genealogical research methods desirable.
