Allergy Immunotherapy
Prior to administering immunotherapy, the following documents must be completed and on file in the clinic:
- Physician Orders
- Patient Consent
Student Health Services provides immunotherapy administration for patients only with specific signed orders and instructions from the prescribing physician. Patients with a history of generalized anaphylaxis, those who are highly sensitive, have poorly controlled co-morbid conditions, a history of recurrent reactions, require venom immunotherapy, take beta blockers or MAO inhibitors are not appropriate candidates for immunotherapy administration in the clinic. These patients will be referred to a local allergist or immunologist to receive allergy vaccine.
Student Health Services is staffed with BLS trained certified physician assistant (PA-C) and registered nurse (RN). There is not a physician on site. Emergency equipment, including epinephrine 1:1000, albuterol by nebulizer, oxygen, antihistamine for injection, corticosteroid for injection and oral H2 blockers are available. If a systemic reaction occurs, after preliminary emergent care, emergency personnel will be called to the clinic and the patient will be transported to Brookwood Medical Center, approximately two miles from campus.
