Sigma Chi wins Step Sing Sweepstakes
Themed “Back to Basics,” Step Sing really did take it back to the basics with Sigma Chi’s sweepstakes-winning show set in Bible times.
The brothers of Sigma Chi walked it out on stage clad in tunics and biblical headdresses with their show, “The Original Fraternity.” The audience laughed as the brothers portrayed the twelve disciples dancing to Carrie Underwood’s “Jesus Take the Wheel” and Kanye West’s “Jesus Walks.” Sigma Chi was also awarded the judges’ choice and participants’ choice for Best Music.
“The hardest part was that a lot of guys didn’t think we could compete seriously,” director Matt Mogle, junior business major, said. “Convincing the guys that we could do this if we worked, it was difficult. Keeping the attention of 50 guys isn’t easy. When the guys figured out that we could do well, they began to listen.”
“I was in shock,” Mogle said. “I thought we weren’t going to get it like last year. When Dudes got second we thought we might have a chance. For me, it was relief that the time we put into the show was worth it. Not many guys expected to win sweepstakes.”
