Undeclared/Unconfirmed Major

Choosing a major is an extremely important decision, but it is only one of the many decisions that you will have to make. Let us help you put it into perspective. Indecision about your major and future career goals at the beginning of your college experience is typical. It is very difficult at your age to know exactly what you will be doing in 10 years. Fortunately, you don't have to! The days of graduating from college and getting a lifelong job with one company are over. The average individual changes careers 3 to 5 times in his or her lifetime and has an average of 10 different jobs. Sometimes, your choice of major significantly narrows your available career choices. For instance, nursing majors are trained specifically to become nurses. Suggestions for major exploration:

Samford requires that students choose a major upon registering for their junior year. To officially declare your major, you must fill out a "Change of Major" form.

To declare as an Undeclared Major, please contact the Office of Freshman Life (DBH103).

To declare an academic major, go to that department to fill out the necessary paperwork.
