Alabama Men’s Hall of Fame Call for 2010 Nominations

The Alabama Men’s Hall of Fame is calling for nominations by March 8 for its induction class of 2010.  The Hall was established by the State of Alabama in 1987 to recognize men native to or identified most closely with the state of Alabama who have made significant contributions on a state, national, or international scale.  The Alabama Men’s Hall of Fame is housed at Samford University in Birmingham.

To date, sixty-two men have been inducted into the Hall of Fame.  Those honored include men such as Wynton Malcom “Red” Blount, George Washington Carver, Braxton Bragg Comer, William Crawford Gorgas,  The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Thomas Wesley Martin, Admiral Raphael Semmes, Wernher Von Braun, and Joseph Wheeler.  Those chosen constitute a distinguished roll of important figures in Alabama history, but many others also warrant recognition.  A form for nominations and a list of the sixty-two current members are available.

Nominations will be reviewed in March by a selection committee designated by the Hall of Fame Board.  The committee’s recommendations, along with a list of all nominees, will be submitted to the full Board in April for a final vote.  The formal induction ceremony is held each year in Birmingham during September.

All nominees must have been deceased for at least two years.  Nominations must be postmarked no later than March 8, 2010.  Nominations should be mailed to Alabama Men’s Hall of Fame, P.O. Box 292307, Samford University, Birmingham, AL 35229.  For more information, contact the Board’s secretary, Ms. Annette Green at 205-879-3935.
