What is Samford Summer Adventure

This is your ticket to get to know Samford. Samford Summer Adventure is an optional experience that helps prepare incoming students for the transition to the Samford community. Spend time getting to know your future classmates while serving local communities, expanding your leadership skills and enjoying outdoor recreation activities.

Samford Summer Adventure exists to help incoming students feel more confident and prepared for entering the Samford community. The summer program holds true to the university’s commitment of service to God, to family, to one another and to the community.

Upon trip acceptance, participants will receive more information. Total payment is due one month before the trip. All trip fees include activity fees, travel and food expenses, and a T-shirt.

Urban Adventure

Tuesday, June 16–Friday, June 19 • Birmingham, Ala.

Urban Adventure is a summer volunteer experience and is designed to actively engage you in community service. This adventure allows you to meet other incoming students who share an enthusiasm for service. Spend three days living on campus and working within the nearby Birmingham community. Activities range from building a Habitat for Humanity home to working with underprivileged in inner-city Birmingham. Urban Adventure teaches you about the community you will be a part of for the next four years. At night, explore the community and enjoy fun activities as a group.

Trip Cost: $150
Deposit: $75 must be paid by June 1, 2009

Leadership Adventure

Thursday, July 16–Sunday, July 19 • Bryson City, Tenn.

Leadership Adventure aids in your development of leadership skills, your understanding of community and your ability to work in teams. Spend time getting to know your classmates, building community and learning more about your leadership abilities. The program starts on Samford’s campus and continues to the Nantahal Outdoor Center in Bryson City, Tenn. You are accompanied by current students, faculty and staff.

Trip Cost: $350
Deposit: $175 must be paid by June 12, 2009

Outdoor Adventure

Friday, July 31–Sunday, August 2 • Bryson City, Tenn

If you are serious about outdoor activities, this is your trip. Spend a full day on the rapids of the Upper and Lower Ocoee, begin friendships 50 feet in the air on a high ropes course, and see the beautiful scenery of the Appalachian Trail. This trip is sure to get your adrenaline going, and you’ll begin relationships that will last a lifetime. While this trip is geared toward those who love the outdoors, you won’t have to sleep on the ground.

Trip Cost: $450
Deposit: $225 must be paid by June 26, 2009
