Application Procedure
- Students should sign up for Samford's Career Development Center (CDC) workshops on "Resumes and Cover Letters," "Interviewing Skills" and "Networking/Telephone Skills" prior to registering for the communication internship, COMS 424.
- After attending the CDC workshops, complete the departmental internship application form and submit it to the Director of Internships. Include a complete grade history and official documentation of GPA.
- Students are to have their advisers or another faculty member complete the Faculty Recommendation form and return it to the Director of Internships.
- After completing the application and arranging for the faculty recommendation form, students must contact the Director of Internships for an interview.
- Once a student begins the interview process for potential internship placement, he/she is expected to keep the Director of Internships advised and informed. Formal thank-you letters must be sent following each interview.
Advising/Registration and Course Credit
The student will sign up for COMS 424: "Communication Internship" at the beginning of the semester in which the internship is to be done. The Director of Internships must authorize registration in the course, and the Communication Studies Department will only process the registration after an internship offer has been accepted by the student and approved by the Director of Internships. For a 4-credit internship, students are expected to put in 10-15 hours per week at the internship site.
