William J. Stevens
Chair, Board of Trustees, Samford University
William J. (Bill) Stevens has served as chairman of Samford University’s Board of Trustees since 2005 and has been on the board since 1997. He also serves on the advisory board for Samford’s Brock School of Business.
Since 1978, Mr. Stevens has worked for Motion Industries, Inc., a Birmingham-based Fortune 500 company. He has been president and chief executive officer since 1997 after serving in a variety of executive management positions.
A native of Alexander City, Alabama, Mr. Stevens received a B.S. in business administration from Samford in 1970. While a student at Samford, he played varsity basketball. Mr. Stevens is active in the community, serving in several leadership roles at Dawson Memorial Baptist Church and with the Birmingham Regional Chamber of Commerce and the Power Transmission Distributors Association. He currently serves or has served on the boards of directors for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama, The Salvation Army, Greater Alabama Council of Boy Scouts of America and Central Alabama Junior Achievement.
Mr. Stevens and his wife, Kimeran, have two sons, including Drew, a 2007 Samford graduate.
