Hogewood Honored As 2009 Outstanding Fundraising Executive
J. M. (Monty) Hogewood, senior advancement officer at Samford University, has received the 2009 William S. Roth Outstanding Fundraising Executive award. The award was presented Nov. 12 during annual National Philanthropy Day ceremonies sponsored by the Alabama chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals.
Hogewood was nominated by several Samford administrators, donors and community leaders for the award, which honors an Alabama AFP member for professional excellence. The award is named for a former Alabama AFP chapter president. Roth assisted in presenting the award to Hogewood.
Hogewood came to Samford in 1992 after a successful 25-year career in retailing. He served as director of alumni relations and currently is the advancement officer for the schools of nursing and pharmacy.
“Fundraising is a relationship profession, and it truly is about teamwork,” Hogewood said. Fundraising as a career is the icing on my cake. I love my work of cultivating and stewarding gifts for Samford.”
Hogewood is a past president of the Alabama AFP chapter. He has earned Certified Fundraising Executive status from AFP.
Also honored at the luncheon was 1973 Samford graduate Thomas D. Armstrong as outstanding professional advisor. Armstrong is a financial advisor with Merrill Lynch.
Gary M. Cooney was honored by Samford as a “volunteer in philanthropy” for his recent gifts to fund the new Cooney Family Field House and athletics scholarships. Cooney is a 1974 Samford graduate.
