Homecoming 2009 Is Next Week!

Samford will celebrate Homecoming next week, Nov. 2-8. 

The Samford Student Government Association along with the Samford for Life student philanthropy program will start the week with a free Sister Hazel concert for alumni and students on the Quad Monday night. 

Student-oriented events will continue through the week. Alumni events move into full gear on Friday, Nov. 6 with the Alumni Association's annual meeting at 4 p.m.

Friday afternoon also will feature a culinary demonstration with alumnus James Briscione, who lives and teaches cooking in New York has been featured on the Food Network show "Chopped".  Briscione will team up with campus chef Chris Vizzina for a special program highlighting the new demonstration kitchen in the Orlean Bullard Beeson School of Education and Professional Studies.

The A Cappella Choir will present a special Evensong service in Hodges Chapel at 5 p.m.

At Friday night's Homecoming Banquet Samford will honor the 2009 outstanding alumnus honorees, along with the first outstanding young alumnus honoree. The Banquet will begin at 7 p.m. Tickets are $25. Registration for the dinner will close on Monday, November 2.

Saturday has a full schedule, including Samford vs. Georgia Southern, special reunions for specific schools and student organizations, Live At The Library and the annual Homecoming parade.  Samford's Department of Journalism and Mass Communication Department will hold a special "Great Reconnect" event all day (follow the link below for details).

Homecoming weekend will conclude on Sunday with the Homecoming worship service at 10 a.m. in Hodges Chapel.  Dr. Bill Shiell and Dr. Kely Hatley, alumni who serve together at First Baptist Church Knoxville will serve as leaders for the worship service.
