Whitehead Anchors Defense Listed Among Nation's Elite
Samford sophomore Alyssa Whitehead was named the Southern Conference Women's Soccer Player of the Week Sept. 15 for all games played September 8-14. She tallied four saves in a 1-0 win over Belmont on Sunday and helped the Bulldogs improve to 4-0-1 on the season.
The Hattiesburg, Miss., native leads the league with four shutouts, has 21 saves in 460 minutes of game action and anchors a defense that has not allowed a goal this season. Samford is also one of only 20 teams that have not been defeated this year.
The team will next be in action Friday, Sept. 18 at 6 p.m. (CDT), as the Bulldogs travel to Kennesaw, Ga., for a challenging nonconference matchup against the Kennesaw State Owls. The contest will be held at the KSU Soccer Complex.
