Renowned Tokyo String Quartet to Perform Sept. 14
Tokyo String Quartet, regarded as one of the world's supreme chamber ensembles, will perform at Samford University Sept. 14 at 7:30 p.m. in Brock Recital Hall as part of the university's Davis Architects Guest Artist Series. The concert is sponsored by Chandler and Jane Smith and presented in collaboration with the Birmingham Chamber Music Society. A reception following the concert is sponsored by Michael J. and Mary Anne Freeman in honor of Chandler and Jane Smith.
Tokyo String Quartet--Martin Beaver and Kikuei Ikeda (violins), Kazuhide Isomura (viola,) and Clive Greensmith (cello)—has collaborated with a remarkable array of artists and composers, built a comprehensive catalogue of critically acclaimed recordings and established a distinguished teaching record. Their recordings have earned such honors as the Grand Prix du Disque Montreux, “Best Chamber Music Recording of the Year” awards from Stereo Review and Gramophone magazines and seven Grammy nominations.
