Gala, Exhibit to Showcase Samford Arts Faculty Sept. 10
Samford University's School of the Arts will present its annual Faculty Gala Tuesday, Sept. 10 at 7:30 p.m. in Brock Recital Hall.
The free public event, sponsored by Patty McDonald, will feature a rich variety of performances from Samford's music and theater faculty, featuring musical selections from Vivaldi, Lerner and Lowe, Handel, Vaughan Williams, Höhne, Schickele, Donnizetti and others.
The Faculty Gala parallels a free, month-long exhibition of recent artwork by visual arts faculty in Samford University Art Gallery. The works, in various media, will be on display through September 30, with a public reception in the gallery 5-7 p.m. on the evening of the Faculty Gala. Highlights of the exhibit include "21 Days, 22 Artists," an international, collaborative photographic work that undermines the ubiquitous current practice of instant reviewing of photographs and post-production of images. In addition to the special opening hours Sept. 10, the Samford Art Gallery hours are 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
