Samford and St. Vincent's Partner to Deliver Campus Health Care
Samford University will partner with St. Vincent’s Health Systems to provide health care services for students and employees, beginning during the fall semester. Staffed by a physician three days a week and a full-time physician assistant, the clinic will provide primary medical care services, including acute care for illness and injuries, health maintenance and management of stable, chronic conditions.
University Health Services and counseling services will be housed in expanded new quarters in Seibert Hall that will include three examination rooms, a treatment room, triage area and onsite Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA)-certified lab. The clinic entrance is located on the east side of Seibert Hall.
University Health Services also will offer wellness programs throughout the year in partnership with St. Vincent’s. It will introduce the new program and quarters to Samford staff members during a wellness initiative Tuesday, Aug. 16, presenting screening tests and other information.
“This partnership builds on the strong faith-based mission of both the university and the St. Vincent’s system,” said Dr. Phil Kimrey, Samford vice president for student affairs and enrollment management.
Shauna N. Yelton, the university’s full-time physician assistant, continues to serve as director of health services.
University Health Services will be open Monday through Friday, beginning Aug. 22. It will accept most health care plans and will be able to file claims for patients. Samford employees participating in the Blue Cross Blue Shield plan will have an extra benefit of reduced co-pay ($15) for services.
