SoCon Media Picks Samford Sixth In Preseason Football Poll
The Samford football team was picked to finish sixth in the Southern Conference by the league's media, when the preseason poll was released July 28.

Samford received 194 points in the poll. Last season the Bulldogs posted a 4-4 conference record, finishing in a tie for fourth in the league. Samford had a 6-5 overall record, marking the first winning season for the program since 2003, and the Bulldogs return eight starters on offense and six on defense from last year's squad.
Defending conference champion Appalachian State was picked to win the league with 429 points in the voting. The Mountaineers received 46-of-48 first-place votes. Elon, who finished third in the league last year, was voted second in the poll with 360 points and one first-place vote.
Wofford, who finished second in the league and advanced to the NCAA playoffs last season, was picked third with 326 points. Georgia Southern came in fourth in the voting with 275 points and one first-place vote.
Furman was voted fifth in the poll with 260 points, followed by Samford at sixth and The Citadel at seventh with 165 points.
Western Carolina was voted eighth in the poll with 94 points, while Chattanooga was picked to finish ninth with 57 points.
