Samford To Host NCAA Regional at Hoover's Veterans Park
The NCAA has designated Samford University as a regional host for the 2010 Cross Country Championships on Nov. 13 in conjunction with the city of Hoover and the Hoover Track Foundation. The South Regional meet will be hosted at Veterans Park in Hoover, which has hosted several national- and regional-caliber cross country meets.
"Samford has a great history with Veterans Park, the city of Hoover and the Hoover Track Foundation and we look forward to another great event which should host 50-60 teams," said Rod Tiffin, Samford's head cross country and track and field coach.
In the past three years, Samford has competed in or helped host three events at Veterans Park. Most recently, the Bulldogs took part in the Southeast Showdown competing against teams like Ole Miss and UAB. In 2007, Samford helped host two events at the venue including the Samford Invitational and the Ohio Valley Conference Championships.
The Samford women's cross country team has captured two conference titles in the last few years. The Bulldogs were crowned the 2004 OVC Champions in their second year in the conference. After falling just short of a championship in 2008 in their first year in the Southern Conference, Samford upset the reigning champion Chattanooga women to claim the 2009 SoCon Championship.
