Samford Student Wins National Vocal Performance Honor
Samford University School of the Arts student Leah Doss won the Vocal category in the National Federation of Music Clubs Student/Collegiate Auditions (Woman's Voice Classification) in May. The award includes a $3,000 prize.
"Samford's voice students have a long and strong record of success throughout Alabama and the southeast but it is extraordinary to have a student reach national recognition," said Sharon Lawhon, professor of music and coordinator of the vocal-choral department. "Leah possesses the vocal, musical, and personal potential to go far in the field of vocal performance," Lawhon added. "She is the kind of student who is a joy to teach and inspires me to be a better teacher."
Doss's mother, School of the Arts alumna Laura Doss, '86, teaches at Alabama School of Fine arts and serves her Alma Mater as an adjunct music faculty member.
