“I am so blessed to have the opportunity to work with such fine young men and women” said Beck A. Taylor, dean of the Brock School of Business. “This is one of my favorite events of the year because we have an opportunity to recognize the efforts and achievements of our community members.”

Taylor. “He models exemplary service to all of us and is a trusted advisor not only at Brock, but also at Samford University.” Marshall will receive a $5,000 summer fellowship for his achievements.
Alumnus of the Year
Greg Powell, President and Chief Executive Officer of Fi-Plan Partners, was named 2009 Alumnus of the Year. The award is given to an outstanding graduate of the Brock School who excels in business, has been a faithful supporter of the Brock School of Business, and has demonstrated a commitment to remain active in the life of Samford. Powell is an independent wealth consultant with more than 27 years in the financial industry. Powell recently completed a 3-year term as chair of the Brock School’s advisory board, and he currently serves as the president of the Samford University Alumni Association.
“It is a huge honor for me to receive the Brock School of Business Alumnus of the Year. I fully believe that no one is successful or fulfilled unless they touch the lives of the people around them. I also believe that no one receives this kind of recognition without having the love and support of so many who believe in you,” said Powell. “When I attended Samford as a student, I did not fully appreciate the Samford experience as more than an outstanding education on a beautiful campus. Today, I tell people that the Samford experience has enormous value just in the relationships that can develop through the years. Both personally and professionally, I have received so much from this institution. To be a part of the energy and dynamics that are occurring at the Brock School of Business has been energizing for me.”
“Greg Powell is the perfect example of a dedicated alumnus to a university,” said Beck A. Taylor. “He has been very instrumental in leading the Brock School of Business to where it is today. It is through his leadership that Brock has become one of the most respected business schools in the region.”
