Special Message from the President

Our first and only thoughts today turn to the magnitude of the losses suffered within our community and across Alabama. Hundreds of Samford volunteers are serving throughout the Birmingham area, returning to campus with a fresh perspective of the challenges we must face together. One student said that she was "wrecked and renewed" by the experience.

I will remind us again and again in the months to come that we must discipline ourselves for a long obedience as we lend support to our neighbors.  Today it is distributing bottles of water.  Next week it will be listening as they delve into the emotional trauma that must rise to the surface.  Next month it will be the fretful and sometimes contentious planning that is part and parcel of rebuilding.  Next year it will be the hammering of nails, the painting of walls, amid the reflections of the first anniversary of the storm.

The daily messages from Renie Moss feature three words of hope:  give, serve, pray.  Give as Christ has given to us; serve as Christ has commanded; pray in the name of Christ that our thoughts and deeds may bless God and those around us.

Keep the faith, Samford.  Live out the truth of Galatians, chapter 6, verse 9:  "Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up."
