Ross Earns Goldwater Honorable Mention
For the second year in a row a Samford student has earned Honorable Mention in the prestigious national Goldwater Scholarship competition.
Biochemistry major and University Fellow Jordan Ross took this year's honor, which is awarded by home state. Ross, representing Tennessee, aspires to earn M.D. and Ph.D. degrees focused on cancer research and treatment.
The Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Program was established by Congress in 1986 to honor Senator Barry M. Goldwater and provide a continuing source of highly qualified scientists, mathematicians and engineers by awarding scholarships to college students who intend to pursue careers in these fields.
Another Samford University Fellow, Computer Science major Jesse Kawell, took the Goldwater honor in 2011. The University Fellows program is Samford's honors experience, offering innovative liberal arts courses, unique international study opportunities, undergraduate research support and the chance to develop close working relationships with top Samford faculty.
