Men's Tennis Wins SoCon Championship
Samford's men's tennis team claimed the 2011 Southern Conference Tournament championship April 23 as the Bulldogs rolled to a 4-0 victory against the College of Charleston Cougars in the SoCon Tournament title match held at the Champions Club.
"Our guys played great in this tournament and a lot of different things contributed to our success," said Samford head coach Kemper Baker. "On our last road trip of the regular season, I think we were able to really figure some things out and we realized that we need to play with a positive emotion and keep things fun. This week, we were lucky enough to come out and beat three outstanding teams."
With the victory, Samford (19-6) tallied its first SoCon Tournament championship and earned a berth in the prestigious NCAA Tournament for the second time in four seasons. The Bulldogs will learn their regional destination and first-round opponent May 3 at 4:30 p.m. (CDT) as the NCAA Selection Show will be aired live on NCAA.com.
