Samford To Host State Geographic Bee April 9
Alabama’s top 100 geography students will compete in the State Geographic Bee at Samford Friday, April 9. The final round will be at 3 p.m. in Reid Chapel.
The competitors, all in grades four through eight, qualified after winning contests in their school and placing among the top 100 scorers in the state on a test administered by the National Geographic Society. They represent schools in 23 Alabama counties.
The winner of Friday’s competition will receive a $100 cash prize, a National Geographic Collegiate Atlas of the World and an all-expenses-paid trip to Washington, D.C., for the national finals May 25-26. The championship round will air nationally on the National Geographic Channel May 26.
Amanda Williams, a teacher in Homewood City Schools, is coordinator of the state finals.
