Clarinet Recital To Open Week That Includes "Opera Scenes" Premiere
This week all eyes are on our Momentum Dance Concert, starting Thursday evening, but it's time to look ahead to next week's Samford arts offerings!
Music professor Brian Villiunas, clarinet, will open the Samford arts week with a free public recital Tuesday, April 9 at 7:30 p.m. in Brock Recital Hall.
The annual Samford Opera Scenes event will be presented Friday, April 12 and Saturday April 13. Music professor Kristin Kenning directs this year's production. "Besides doing a wide range of scenes, from Mozart's Marriage of Figaro to Kurt Weill's Street Scene , we're also doing the premiere staging of a scene from Evan Mack's new opera The Secret of Luca," says Kenning. "This is actually a big deal as both he and the librettist, Joshua McGuire, will be in residence with our students previous to the performances - coaching them musically and dramatically."
Samford Opera Scenes is presented free of charge at 7:30 p.m. in Bolding Studio both nights. The scene casts will be different each night, so if you can't decide which night to attend, just attend both!
