Samford SAAC Wins SoCon Pink Zone Competition

For the second year in a row, Samford's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) raised the highest amount of money of all Southern Conference schools for the SoCon's Pink Zone initiative, the league announced recently.

"We are proud of our student-athletes for working so hard to support this great cause," Samford associate director of athletics Michelle Durban, who oversees SAAC, said. "The Pink Zone initiative is very important to Samford and we take great pride in raising the top amount in the SoCon again this year."

The Pink Zone is an initiative to help raise funds and awareness for breast cancer research. The SAAC from each of the 11 SoCon schools who sponsor women's basketball were asked to raise money for the cause.

This year, Samford's SAAC sold Pink Zone t-shirts, as well as pink shoelaces, arm bands and crocs to raise funds.

The Pink Zone apparel was sold at the Samford cafeteria during the week leading up to Samford's Pink Zone game on Feb. 15, as well as at the game itself.

Samford's SAAC raised a total of $3,038.20 for the cause. As the winner of the competition, the organization receives a $500.00 reward.
