Philanthropy Difference Day Marks Shift From Tuition To Gifts
On March 9 Samford celebrated Philanthropy Difference Day, marking the theoretical date that Samford ceased to operate on tuition revenue and began to operate on donor gifts.
The university's fiscal year began on July 1, 2008, and tuition dollars cover only 69 percent of the cost of operating the university through the end of the fiscal year, June 30, 2009.
The other 31% must come from funds donated by alumni and other friends.
