Samford Celebrates Philanthropy Difference Day

Hundreds of Samford University students and employees used part of their normal day March 6 to help write  personal thank you notes to thousands of Samford donors in celebration of the annual Philanthropy Difference Day on campus.

“Yesterday symbolized Philanthropy Difference Day, one in which we hypothetically shift from operating on tuition dollars and are carried forth on the sacrificial gifts of the alumni, parents and friends,” said Sheri Ransome, director of annual giving.

About 30 percent of Samford’s annual operating budget comes from gifts and endowment earnings, Ransome noted.

“For generations, the faithful annual gifts of many have provided opportunities which transform the hearts and minds of these students and prepare them for their Kingdom work allowing faculty and staff to fulfill theirs,” she said.

Activities for the day were coordinated by the student-led Philanthropy Awareness Council.
