Samford Students, Faculty Win Birmingham ADDYs
Samford University graphic design students were honored Feb. 26 with five advertising awards at the 52nd annual ADDY Awards at the historic Alabama Theatre in Birmingham. The ADDYs are sponsored by the Alabama chapter of the American Advertising Federation.
Junior Geoff Johnson received gold in the student editorial design category.
“I was pleasantly surprised,” Johnson said. “I did not expect to get gold, but when they called my name, I was overjoyed. It is nice to be recognized for the hard work you pour into things. The particular project . . . was really quite a struggle to create at first, but it turned out to be something I was proud of. It is nice to know that others felt the same way,”
December 2010 graduate Alex Stoner earned silver in the student interactive media category. “I was proud that my work was noticed and chosen by such respected members of the design community,” Stoner said. “It gave me a sense of accomplishment and relief that all of my hard work was worth it and had paid off.”
Other Samford student winners were junior Lauren Rives, silver in the student collateral category, and senior Lindsay Calhoun, silver in the student editorial design category.
Samford art faculty member Scott Fisk won a silver award in the public service category for a poster he created for UNESCO.
Calhoun, Rives and Johnson received scholarships with their awards.
