Jackson To Speak At Bulldog Bash Presented By BB&T
The Samford Athletics Department will hold its fourth-annual Bulldog Bash dinner and silent auction, presented by BB&T, April 25 at the Pete Hanna Center on Samford's campus. Heisman Trophy winner and former National Football League and Major League Baseball star Bo Jackson will be the featured speaker at this year's event.
The Bulldog Bash is a silent auction event hosted by Samford University to raise money for the athletics department and its 17 teams. Tables can be purchased for $1,500, with each table seating eight people. Individual seats are also available for $250. A limited number of premium tables which included a private meet and greet with Bo Jackson are available for $3,000.
The evening will begin with a silent auction at 6 p.m., followed by dinner at 7 p.m. Jackson will speak to the group following dinner.
Jackson, a native of Bessemer, Ala., won the 1985 Heisman Trophy as a running back at Auburn University. Jackson was a three-sport athlete at Auburn, starring in football, baseball and track. He is still the all-time leading rusher in Auburn football history.
After completing his college career, Jackson went on to stardom in both the NFL with the Los Angeles Raiders, and in Major League Baseball with the Kansas City Royals, Chicago White Sox and California Angels. Jackson was named to the American League All-Star team in 1989 and the AFC Pro Bowl team in 1990, making him the first athlete to be named an All-Star in two American professional sports.
In April, 2012, Jackson participated in Bo Bikes Bama, in which he biked 300 miles through the state of Alabama to help raise money for the Governor's Emergency Relief Fund, which was established to help Alabamians with unmet recovery needs that unfolded in the wake of the deadly tornado outbreak across the state in April of 2011. The event raised well over $600,000 to help victims of the tornados.
