Snapshot - Students Make Glass Beads to Help Caribbean Turtles and Islanders

Samford students make glass beads during a Jan term trip to help save endangered Caribbean turtles. According to Geography professor Jennifer Rahn, fisherpeople on many Caribbean islands often eat the endangered turtles because they are too poor to buy food. A cottage industry in manufacturing glass beads helps the turtles by reducing local poverty. After a bead-making class, the Samford group was invited to spend part of a day turning discarded bottles into a more sustainable future for turtles and islanders. Photo by Jennifer Rahn
