Kardos, codirector of the creative writing program at Mississippi State University, is the author of One Last Good Time, described by Kirkus Reviews as "an impresive debut collection." Kardos also has written the forthcoming novel, The Three-Day Affair (Mysterious Press), and a textbook, The Art and Craft of Fiction (Bedford/St. Martin's).

His short stories appear in The Southern Review, Crazyhorse, Harvard Review, Prism International, Prairie Schooner and other magazines and anthologies.
